Inspired by a love of Western Celtic shorelines and the sea, Kirsti Hannah Brown hand-builds figuratively-shaped ceramic vessels that reflect the influence of the sea and landscape around her. Many of her pieces, such as the pleasingly rotund spherical bottles with slim necks, feature a vivid dry turquoise glaze painted, poured or trailed over unglazed clay. Her washed pebble forms are beautifully tactile and a joy to behold. The pieces are fired to stoneware temperature. Kirsti uses a variety of textured clays, all of which react in various ways to alter the depth of colour in the glaze. The application of slips, sgraffito and resist techniques add further depth to the surfaces. Kirsti is a member of the Makers Guild in Wales, and her work has been displayed in galleries across the UK from the Isles of Scilly to the Shetland Isles.
